Our Favorite Fair Trade Organic Bedding

We like to relax in bed after a hard day knowing that we lived that day as sustainably as we possibly could. Before passing out at night, we try to recap the day and try to take stock of everything that happened. We analyze its impact on ourselves and the environment. Some might call it overanalyzing but we call it being conscientious of our decisions and lifestyle. We are confident enough in our decisions that when we go to sleep at night, we know for sure that we are doing our part for this planet.

It was during one of these late-night meditations that our attention leaped from out of our own mind to the room around us. We remember talking about what we could change in the bedroom. As we passed in and out of a drowsy sleep, a sudden realization popped in our heads. We spent all the time looking up and around us that we sort of ignored what we were lying on. Though we like to avoid cell phones and their bright distracting screens in bed, we had to quickly google our options in beddings. Lo, and behold we found a lot of useful information on the internet. We managed to learn quite a lot about the practices that go into making them eco friendly and sustainable.

So today, let us look at fair trade organic beddings today that will elevate your sleep and bring you peace of mind both literally and figuratively!

Looma Luxury Sheet Set 100% Organic Himalayan Cotton

These sheets are made from cotton grown in the Himalayas. The high altitude of the cotton plant makes the final product 2x softer than most other outputs. The cotton is of the long-staple variety. It is completely organic being GOTS certified – which means it was grown free of harmful toxic chemicals that are usually pumped into cotton plants to artificially increase their yield. So you can be sure that no pesticides or fertilizers or GMO molecules find their way into your cotton sheets.

To top it all off, the cotton is also grown in a fair trade manner and is certified for the same. That means the cotton is made by farmers who are paid fair living wages and work in safe working conditions. So there is absolutely no guilt associated with this product as is common with other products made from exotic and imported materials whose origins you may not be fully sure of. This set comes with 1 fitted sheet, 1 flat sheet, and 2 pillowcases making it perfect for one bed. They come in 6 different colors and 5 different bed sizes

Boll & Branch Luxury Fair Trade Long Staple Organic Cotton Sheet Set

This set is manufactured from cotton sourced from fair trade certified farms and factories in India. They claim that the farmers producing the cotton for these sheets are paid 2x to 3x times the average local wages. The sheets themselves are very soft to the touch and lightweight. This is because the sheets have a 300 thread count which is a measure of the amount of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch. Generally, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheets. Also being GOTS certified helps to keep you assured that all elements of the supply chain were designed to meet rigorous ecological and social criteria.

They come in 3 different colors and 4 different sizes. There is also a striped variant if that is more up your alley which comes in 2 colors and 4 sizes. These sheets are a little expensive for the specifications on paper but we feel they are worth it because of the New Jersey headquartered company’s efforts towards the environment.

Fair Trade Certified Luxury T-400 100% Organic Cotton Sateen, GOTS-Certified, Solid Color Bed Sheet Set

These bedsheets have a very high thread count of 400. It makes them silky soft to the touch. The cotton is organic and GOTS certified. They are also OEKO-TEX certified. It is a certification for environmental standards during production. The sheets are made in a fair trade certified facility. The sheets are available in 4 colors and 4 sizes. We like the pearl blue colored sheets because they go perfectly with most bedroom decors. The sheets are 100% machine washable. They are super affordable for their claimed thread count and certifications.

They also come in a percale variant which is even more affordable. To quickly understand the difference between percale and sateen sheets, you have to look at their texture and their thickness. Percale sheets are more matte, lightweight, and thinner while sateen sheets are glossy and thicker. One can describe percale sheets as being more crispy like something light you would put on in the summer. Sateen sheets are thicker and can be thought of as heat-insulating, winter sheets.

Royal Borough Fair Trade Certified Luxurious Handfeel 300 Thread Count 100% Tencel Lyocell Solid Color Bed Sheet Set

Made by the same company that made the previous sheet set, this one is made from TENCEL Lyocell which is a fiber where TENCEL is the brand name. It is certified by Lenzing, the makers, and owners of the TENCEL brand. The fibers are derived from eucalyptus that is farmed sustainably in a closed-loop process. A closed-loop process refers to the fact that all the waste generated is processed and reintroduced into the ecosystem thereby leading to very little nutrient erosion. The final product has a silky hand feel while being wrinkle-resistant, breathable, and machine washable. The sheets have a thread count of 300, are available in 4 colors and 4 sizes.

There are not a lot of options when it comes to buying fair trade mattress bedding. Sure you will find a lot of organic bedding readily available but you will be hard-pressed to find sheets that are fair trade certified. We try our best to highlight products and companies that manufacture them. It is a cause that interests us and one that we are willing to get behind wholeheartedly.

Love,

Scooch and Steve
