Our Favorite Plant-Based Soaps For Under $20
Our list of favorite plant-based soaps have come from trying dozens of different all-natural, cruelty-free, and sustainable soaps under $20 over the years. There are a lot of factors the go into picking a soap, like a scent, essential oils, ingredients (obviously), bottle size, and branding. We decided the best way to share our favorite all-natural soaps was to go through the best brands so you can do your own research on their products. We’ll call it planting the seed 😉
In late 2019, Steve was traveling to LA to speak at a conference and stayed downtown at the legendary Hoxton hotel. Its beautifully designed hotel with amazing amenities and if you haven’t stayed at one of their locations – DEFINITELY DO IT!
After getting inspired by some of the awesome trinkets, designs, and soaps available at The Hoxton when Steve arrived home again to Tampa after his trip, we started testing new soaps!
These were the best plant-based, cruelty-free and all natural hand soaps we tested in Q1 2020

Mrs. Meyer’s cuts through grease while keeping dishes clean and bright Contains plant-derived cleaning ingredients to make grease disappear. This well known biodegradable dish soap is designed for hand washing dishes, pots, and pans. Our favorite is the Garden-fresh lemon verbena with a light, refreshingly mild citrus scent. Most importantly Mrs; Meyer produces cruelty-free dish soaps; None of our products are tested on animals.
There are a lot of different soaps available but we recommend trying these out first. As you can see they are very affordable and when you buy in bulk there are some really creative ways to limit your use of plastic. While Steve was at The Hoxton he noticed the glass amber bottles everywhere. We picked up a bunch of them to re-use our soaps and hand lotions.
These specifically have been the best reusable glass amber bottles on Amazon that we’ve tried:
32-Ounce Amber Glass Lotion Pump Bottles (2-Pack)
COST: $19.99
These are quart-sized brown bottles with a black plastic pump. In addition to hand soap and dish soap, you can use these for hand care. One of our favorite features of these amber bottles is they include chalk labels.
Overall if you can manage to get one of these three soaps in bulk from Amazon or Costco you’ll be in good shape. Once you’ve purchased the bulk amount of soap from one of these sustainable soap focused companies we recommend buying glass amber bottles from Amazon and refilling your soaps. This not only dramatically decreases your footprint but we’ve even found it makes us use less of the soap. Having to refill the soap isn’t hard to do in the amber glass bottles we mentioned previously but its a deterrent from using more than you need.
Happy hand washing!
Love,
Scooch and Steve
