Short Term Rental Bathroom Essentials

The guests come in tired and covered in sweat and dirt from their journey throughout the day. They rely on your property’s bathroom to freshen up and clean themselves up after a busy day before going to bed. The bathroom has to be well equipped and inviting for the guests. You need to stock it for the guests with personal hygiene products. You need to have all the basic products covered in case your guests aren’t carrying any with them. You also have to stock it with tools for yourself to clean the bathroom with.

This is a list of things that you should have in your guest’s bathroom. It is a good idea to have multiples of these items, some in the property, some with you in storage and to dispense them out as needed.

Let us look at two categories here:

For your guests:

Soap: You need a basic selection of inexpensive bar soap in case the guests don’t get their own body wash. This collection of bar soap doesn’t dry the skin and should fit most people. It feels better than the discount bulk bar soap you usually find at supermarkets.

Handwash: You absolutely need handwash next to the sink. This set is gentle on hands and is very affordable.

Shampoo: Shampoo is nice to have. You can get this one with moisturizing properties which should fit most hair types.

Toilet paper: Cheap toilet paper can leave a very bad impression. In our experience, this set is a good balance between cost and quality.

Candles: If you are going to let the guests enjoy a premium bathroom experience, consider getting scented candles that can be put next to the bath. The guests can lounge in the bathtub for a personal spa-like relaxation session.

Shower curtain: If your property doesn’t have one, you must get a shower curtain that won’t get moldy after use. You might have to replace them occasionally for hygiene purposes. This one is specially mildew resistant and anti-bacterial. It should be a great simple match and easily replaceable if needed.

Trash can: This great choice for a covered trash can with a lever to open the top with your leg is a sanitary choice for any bathroom. You shouldn’t get something that is open as it won’t look good.

Rack for bath towels: You need ample space to store the bath towels and other clothes while the guest is having a bath. Buy a set so that you get different kinds. This won’t require replacing often but will require some effort to set up.

Bath mat: A bath mat soaks up the water after a bath keeping the floor sanitary and hopefully free of fungus and mildew. This will have to be replaced every year or so. This memory foam bath mat feels soft to the feet.

For cleaning the bathroom:

EcoClean Mold Remover: Bathrooms tiles get covered with gunk, especially in the space between two tiles. This gives them a faded old look over time. Mold remover will do wonders for your bathroom by restoring it to a fresh brand new look. This one is really easy to use. You just apply it and rinse it off after 6-8 hours. It leaves nothing behind.

Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner: The toilet bowl is one of the first things to get discolored with use. If you spot a toilet with a yellowish residue then it creates a disgusting impression on the guest. Having a good toilet cleaning solution is always important to eliminate those complaints and keep the bowl shiny clean.

Clorox Bathroom Cleaner: For cleaning the rest of the bathroom like sinks and countertops, you will need this multipurpose cleaner that can be used with a simple washcloth or scrubber to clean the rest of the surfaces. This one has a citrus scent. It is blue when you apply it and turns white when it is ready to be wiped.

Mr Clean Plunger and Toilet Brush Caddy Set: This plunger and brush set comes with a caddy that makes it easy to store as a unit for smaller properties. This is always good to have around for guests to keep the toilet working.

Scrubber: You need a scrubber to get rid of the hard water stains on the sink or in the bathtub. You will need something like this which has an easy grip and is sturdy enough to take some pressure.

Things to keep in mind:

Thoroughly inspect the bathroom as a part of the check out process. You will have to restore it to its default state for the next guests.

You should make a habit of keeping spare items just in case you run out or some items get stolen. The guests shouldn’t run out of toilet paper or shampoo in an emergency.

Even though you expect the guests to carry toothbrushes and toothpaste, keep extra ones just in case. Just get something basic that people won’t mind.

Do a regular deep cleaning of your bathroom. Use mold removers to remove the gunk on and between the tiles. If you can get it power-washed that is even better. Pay close attention to reviews and respond with actions accordingly. If you can hire someone to do this regularly then that is the best option but if not, make sure to find some time, especially if your property is booked most of the time.

Take cues from hotels and other Airbnbs for more ideas on what to provide. It is important to know what your competition is providing and keeping up to that standard.

If you are going to have plants in the plastic plants in the bathroom, make sure they are checked for insects regularly. Shampoo: Shampoo is nice to have. You can get this one with moisturizing properties which should fit most hair typesIf you are going to have plants in the plastic plants in the bathroom, make sure they are checked for insects regularly.

Make sure the lights in the bathroom are working fine because vanity mirrors usually tend to give out due to the moisture.

With all this talk of keeping the bathroom well stocked, make sure the basics are solid. For example, make sure there are no leaks and the hot and cold water are working properly. No amount of accessories will make the bathroom good if the plumbing doesn’t work.

Love,
Scooch and Steve
