The 7 Best Keurig Compatible Compostable Coffee Pods

If you are new to this blog, then you might not be aware of our love for coffee. If so, firstly, welcome to our corner of the internet. We hope you are having a great time learning about living a sustainable lifestyle. Second, we have covered many coffee products in the past. From disposable coffee cups to reusable ones, from coffee makers to coffee tables, we have not shied away from our love of all things java.

Today we are going to revisit that old well to look at something we have been meaning to cover for a while. We have a Keurig, just so you know, but very rarely used it. We remember we got it on sale for a deep discount. Though we prefer to make our coffee the old fashioned way most of the time, we just couldn’t resist the deal. However, after we got it, we found ourselves hardly using it for one huge reason.

K Cups are wasteful. It pained us to imagine how much waste we were producing every time we used one of the disposable cups. We couldn’t bear that on our conscience and as a result, the machine was ignored most of the time. This changed however when we found out about compostable K Cups. Compostable K Cups are meant to be buried in the ground where they decompose and give back nutrients to the earth. We were stoked when we realized that this meant we could enjoy our coffee without it resting heavily on our conscience.

So without further ado, here are the best Keurig compatible compostable coffee pods that we found on Amazon.

GLORYBREW – 36 K Cup Variety Pack – 100% Compostable Keurig Coffee Pods

These 100% compostable K cups are BPI(Biodegradable Products Institute) certified that ensure that the pods meet the ASTM D6400 or D6868 standards. That means they will break down in commercial composting facilities. They work on single-serve brewers and Keurig machines that use K Cups, including 2.0. The coffee pods come in a medium, dark and extra dark roast variety or you can get a variety pack with all of them. They are available in 2 sizes – a 36 pack and a 72 pack.

Tayst Medium Roast Coffee Pods

This coffee is Rainforest Alliance certified which means that your purchase helps support the families and the communities where the coffee is grown – in South America. There are 2 roasts each with 2 flavors – Bold and Medium with two flavors for each. There are also hazelnut, vanilla, and decaf flavors available. The pods are Keuring 2.0 compatible. We love their motto which says that “Life is too short for crappy coffee”. We totally agree!

Boyd’s Lost Lake Decaf Coffee

This is Amazon’s choice for its amazing value. There are 6 flavors with fancy names like Coffee Shop, French No 6, Good Morning, Hi Rev, Lost Lake Decaf, and Red Wagon. We recommend that you try them all out to figure out which you like the most! When it comes to being ecologically responsible, these certified 100% Keurig compatible compostable coffee pods are made with materials certified by the BPI. The lid is made from a biodegradable paper while the filter uses a porous bio-based material. Even the ring that holds the pouch in place is made from coffee chaff. They come in 12, 20, 24, 72, 80 count packs.

Faro Colombian Dark Roast Coffee

This coffee is also Rainforest Alliance certified with the farming being done in the Columbian rainforests. The pods themselves are commercially compostable and break down in less than 84 days. When it comes to taste, we find it to be full-flavored without being bitter. It is not recommended however if you are just getting into the coffee drinking habit. For a mature palette though, we heartily recommend this one. They also come in other flavors like roaster’s blend and french blend.

SF Bay Coffee Variety Pack 80 Ct Compostable Coffee Pods

This coffee is made by a family-owned, American made company with a rich tradition that has been in business since 1979. There are 2 variety packs, each of them containing different coffee flavors. Consider this as a sampler pack before picking a flavor that you like the most. The brand only uses 100% arabica coffee that has been grown at high altitudes of 3000 ft or higher and certified Kosher coffee beans. They come in packs of 80 or 120. The company runs a “Community Aid” program for the farmers who grow their coffee. Through Community Aid, the company has built schools, worker housing, medical clinics, and day care centers as well as funded scholarships, teachers, and doctors’ salaries in the region. A truly noble cause to get behind!

Cameron’s Coffee Single Serve Pods

The coffee for this flavor is grown in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains. The coffee is fairly sourced. So you know that you are supporting the local community with your purchase. There are a number of other flavors like Kona Blend, Intense French, Breakfast Blend, and more. The Keurig compatible compostable coffee pods use compostable, plant-based materials, such as paper lidding. The ring around the periphery where the pod latches onto the machine is made from corn, beets, and wood. The pods are commercially compostable.

beaniac Flavor Freak Madagascar Vanilla

These are BPI-certified, 100% compostable coffee pods. This particular flavor is a light roast. Though not really our thing, light roasts are great for introducing non-coffee drinkers to the beverage as they might not be used to the bitterness of real coffee. The coffee used is roasted organic arabica coffee. The coffee also comes in other flavors like French Roast, Donut Shop, and Columbian. The three parts of the coffee pods, the lid, the ring, and the filter are made from paper, coffee chaff, and plant-based materials. The coffee is Rainforest Alliance certified.

We hope you enjoyed today’s list. We sure did! Now that we have shown you this world of convenience, you can enjoy the convenience that comes with these coffee pods, guilt free! When it comes to coffee, we are like mice to cheese. A little is good, more is better and you can never tell us that we’ve had enough!

Scooch and Steve
